A field station for the speculative.

Work is submitted a few days ahead of our meeting to give everyone ample time to read closely, rather than reacting on the spot. Each submission can be up to 5,000 words.

Meetings are done popcorn-style. Each writer has the floor for 20–30 minutes and can choose to do one, all, or any of the following: quietly receive feedback from the group; ask specific questions of the group regarding the work; or brainstorm and discuss specific pain points with the group. It's your time to work with fellow writers who have read your work, so you decide how you spend it.

In addition to providing feedback in meetings, each writer is expected to provide written notes on each piece. We read for craft, not taste. The useful question isn't "did I like it," it's "what is this story reaching for, and what's standing in the way."

Feedback and notes are for the work, never the person. That's the whole agreement, and it's why people keep bringing their weirdest, most unfinished pages.

Send in your work on time. Come to most meetings. Read everyone's pages before you arrive. The station only transmits when everyone is at the table.

We also ask that you respect your fellow writers' privacy: no sharing pen names, pseudonyms, or work outside the group; no uploading material to non-approved cloud platforms; and no use of AI for any reason.
